Melbourne University Scholarships for International Students 2020

As a way to encourage intelligent students, universities provide them with University of Melbourne Scholarships. This scholarship is open to scholars, masters, and Ph.D students. When you choose to study at the University of Melbourne, you may need to know that the Scholarship is part of the payment plan for college, but not the whole plan.

Most students need to rely on a combination of various types of financial assistance from various sources, including grants, student work and student loans from the federal and state governments, not just private scholarships. Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarship

The International Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to high achieving international students in recognition of their excellent academic results. No application is required. You will be automatically considered for this award. The total value is up to $56,000 for approximately 50 recipients.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia;
  • have received an offer for an undergraduate course at the University of Melbourne;
  • have achieved excellent final year school results, such as:
    • at least four A* grades in the GCE A Levels
    • at least 97% in an approved foundation program
    • at least a score of 43 in the International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • not have previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a year 12 program)

This scholarship provides either a:

  • $10,000 tuition fee remission in the first year of an undergraduate degree,
  • 50 per cent fee remission for the three year duration of an undergraduate degree, or
  • 100 per cent fee remission for the three year duration of an undergraduate degree

Graduate Research Scholarships

Available to high-achieving students undertaking graduate research at the University of Melbourne.

Stipend and fee offset scholarships

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
  • Relocation grant of $2000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3000 for students moving from outside Australia.
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia
  • Living allowance of $30,600 per year pro rata (2019 full-time study rate) for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.

Fee offset scholarships

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are a researcher mobility programme which supports researchers at all stages of their careers, regardless of age and nationality. Total value $20,000 – $16,000,000 for at least 1500 recipients. Application deadline: 31 Dec 2020.

Melbourne Mobility Awards

This is scholarships and grants for students undertaking overseas study as part of their undergraduate or graduate coursework course. The value is up to $6,000 for 2000 recipients. Last day of application is 31 Dec 2020.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • intend to study overseas for at least 3 weeks as part of a University of Melbourne semester or year-long program, a short-term program or a University of Melbourne Overseas Subject.
  • apply for a Melbourne Mobility Award before commencement of the overseas study program
  • be enrolled at the University of Melbourne in either an undergraduate degree or a graduate coursework degree
  • have not received a Melbourne Mobility Award for overseas study that was part of your current course
  • have not received a New Colombo Plan Grant for the same overseas program
  • have not received a New Colombo Plan Grant or Endeavour Student Exchange Program funding that was part of your current course (applies to Lin Martin Global Scholarship only)

Students must be required to travel for their overseas program for a minimum three week duration to be eligible for any of the Melbourne Mobility Awards.

The Melbourne Global Scholars Award and USA Foundation Scholarship provides a one-off payment of:

  • $2,500 for students undertaking overseas study for 12 weeks or more
  • $1,000 for students undertaking overseas study for at least 3 weeks and up to 12 weeks, or

The Melbourne Global Financial Assistance Grant, John and Betty McCreery Travelling/ Study Scholarship and Lin Martin Melbourne Global Scholarship provides a one-off payment of up to $5,000.

The University House Travel Scholarship and Aitchison Travelling Scholarship provide a one-off payment of up to $5,000.

Research Training Program Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by the Australian Commonwealth Government and the University of Melbourne, and offered to approximately 350 high-achieving domestic and international research students.

Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset)

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

Housing Bursary

This scholarship is awarded to assists approximately 250 students who need live away from home in order to attend University. Total value up to $2,600. Application deadline: 8 Mar 2020. The benefit is an allowance of $100 per fortnight for up to one year.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be paying rent or board. Students paying mortgages are not eligible.
  • be enrolled in a course at the University of Melbourne. Students undertaking a single subject or a non-award course (e.g. study abroad or exchange) are not eligible.
  • complete a means test. Students with a married or de facto partner must also include their partner’s income. Students under the age of 21 must include the income of their parents, unless there is a serious breakdown in the relationship between the student and their parents.

Melbourne School of Engineering Scholarship

The Melbourne School of Engineering provide bi-annual scholarships for commencing students in all of masters programs. The total value $5,000 – $20,000 for approximately 150 students. The Melbourne School of Engineering Scholarships are paid in half-yearly instalments for the normal, full-time duration of the recipient’s course for a maximum of two years.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • have applied for a masters program at the Melbourne School of Engineering

Bachelor of Commerce Global Scholarship

The scholarship provides 20% fee remission for the duration of the course (up to 300 points).

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • Be an international student
  • Have completed an approved Year 12 program or equivalent that meets the eligibility requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce
  • Be a citizen from a country deemed to be under-represented by the Academic Board (eligible countries may change from year to year)
  • Be made an unconditional offer for the Bachelor of Commerce

Science Graduate Scholarship (International)

This scholarship provides tuition fee remission worth $10,000 to high-achieving international students undertaking graduate study at the University of Melbourne.

American Association of University Women: International Fellowships

One of the world’s largest sources of funding for graduate women, the American Association of University Women’s International Fellowship program has been in existence since 1917. The program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Application closed: 15 Nov.

The benefits are:

  • Master’s/first professional degree: a stipend of US$18,000
  • Doctoral: a stipend of US$20,000
  • Postdoctoral: a stipend of US$30,000

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • Have citizenship in a country other than the U.S. or possession of a nonimmigrant visa if residing in the U.S. Women who are currently, or expect to be during the fellowship year, a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or dual citizen with the U.S. and another country are not eligible.
  • Be enrolled in a U.S. accredited institution located in the U.S. during the fellowship year.
  • Hold an academic degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree completed by November 15, 2019.

Bachelor of Arts International Scholarship

This scholarship offers 25 or 50 per cent fee remission, or a $5000 bursary, to a select group of high-ranking international students in recognition of their excellent academic results, supporting them to commence a Bachelor of Arts.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a citizen of India, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, or Thailand
  • have applied for your course by 30 October to be automatically considered for this award for Semester 1 entry; or apply by 31 March for Semester 2 entry

GSHSS International Scholarship and Bursary

This scholarship offers 25 or 50 per cent fee remission, or a $5000 bursary, to a select group of high ranking international students in recognition of their excellent academic results, supporting them to undertake a graduate coursework degree at the GSHSS.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a citizen of India, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, or Thailand
  • have applied to a graduate coursework program at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences by 31 Oct for Semester 1 and 31 March for Semester 2.

Friends of the Sports Association Scholarship

Supported by the Sport Foundation Chapter, these scholarships provide cash and in-kind assistance to help aspiring High Performance student-athletes to simultaneously pursue their academic and sporting dreams. Application deadline: 14 Feb. The benefits is $3000 a year plus strength and conditioning programming and coaching, physiotherapy clinic access, and academic and administrative support.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a member of the relevant Melbourne University Sporting Club, represent the University in varsity competition and be competing at a junior national team level (or equivalent).

Medley Hall Residential College Bursaries

Medley Hall awards around $280K in residential college fee remissions each year to new and returning students. These bursaries allow University of Melbourne students who require financial aid to live at Medley Hall.
