Australia National University Scholarships for International Students 2020
Australian National University offers various scholarships for current and future students to help them with their study costs. The University is committed to enabling all students, regardless of their background, so that they can achieve the best performance, and realize their potential while at ANU.
The requirements for ANU scholarships vary depending on the specifications of the scholarship. Some are based purely on previous academic achievements, while others are based on the principles of equality and social access, and some combination of both. There are also a number of scholarships offered by organizations outside ANU. This scholarship is available for ANU students, but it is not managed by the campus. Many scholarships offered by ANU are funded by support from donors and philanthropists, external organizations, the Government and the Australian industry.
ANU College of Business & Economics International Merit Scholarship for Foundation Studies
Each year the ANU College of Business and Economics may award up to two 50% tuition fee scholarships for international students (“the scholar”) who are applying for admission to an undergraduate program offered by the College for the first time, following the successful completion of the Foundation Studies program at the ANU affiliated provider. The Scholarship will be highly competitive and awarded automatically to an applicant who has performed at a very high level in the Foundation Studies Program.
The Scholarship shall be available to an applicant who:
- Is an International Students as defined under the terms of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000. Dependants of the staff of diplomatic or consular missions are also eligible;
- Has applied for admission to the University on the basis of successful completion of the Foundation Studies program at the ANU affiliated provider. Graduates of both the Standard and Extended Foundation Studies programs are eligible for consideration;
- Has received an offer of admission into a single or double undergraduate degree program offered by the College which is to commence in the teaching period for which the applicant is offered this Scholarship.
No application is required as all eligible candidates will be automatically considered.
ANU College of Business & Economics International Partnership Scholarship
The award is available each year to a prospective student who:
- is an international student;
- has made an application for admission to an undergraduate program at the ANU College of Business and Economics;
- is a current student of, or has graduated from an approved ANU College of Business and Economics partner program and institution; and
- has achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling at an approved ANU College of Business and Economics partner program and institution, as determined by the CBE academic panel.
The Scholarship value is $10,000 per annum. This amount will be paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semester. Students who apply to study at the College of Business and Economics will automatically be considered for the College’s scholarship program.
ANU College of Business & Economics South East Asia Merit Scholarship
The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
- is an international student;
- has made an application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at the ANU College of Business and Economics;
- is a citizen of a country defined by The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as South East Asia; and
- has achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling as determined by the CBE academic panel.
The Scholarship provides international student tuition fee sponsorship for the standard duration of an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at the ANU College of Business and Economics.
ANU College of Engineering & Computer Science International University Partnerships Award
The Award shall be available to an applicant who:
- Is an International Student as defined under the terms of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000. Dependants of the staff of diplomatic or consular missions are also eligible.
- Is undertaking appropriate undergraduate or postgraduate studies at an institute which has an articulation agreement with the College
- Has received an offer of admission into a program offered by the College.
- Will commence a program within the College for the first time.
The value is $5,000 per annum for 13 recipients.
ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship
The Scholarship shall be available to an applicant who:
- Is an International Students as defined under the terms of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000.
- Dependants of the staff of diplomatic or consular missions are also eligible.
- Is a citizen of one of the countries specified by the college on their website (these may vary from year to year)
- Has achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling prior to commencing at ANU, as demonstrated by excellent academic results in their qualifications.
- Has received an offer of admission into an undergraduate program offered by the College to commence in teaching period for which they are applying for this scholarship.
- Will commence an undergraduate program within the College for the first time.
You will receive 25% Tuition Fee Reduction.
ANU Excellence Scholarship Program
The scholarships are open for students commencing in the following Colleges:
- ANU College of Engineering & Computer Sciences
- ANU College of Business and Economics
- ANU Joint College of Sciences
The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
- is defined as an overseas student under the terms of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000;
- meets the citizenship and program requirements as published in the Field of Study table below;
- has achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling, demonstrated by excellent results in their secondary studies qualification or undergraduate degree;
- will enrol in a program at ANU for the first time.
- Dependents or a spouse of staff of diplomatic or consular missions enrolling in a postgraduate degree are eligible.
The benefit is $5000 tuition fee discount in the first 12 months of study at ANU followed by 10 per cent discount of tuition fees for years of study thereafter.
ANU Global Diversity Scholarship
The award is $25,000 per year for up to two years, available to a prospective ANU student who:
- Is an international student
- Is a citizen of one of the countries listed on this website under ANU Targeted Diversity Source Regions (see under further information at the bottom of this page)
- Received an offer of admission to a pathway program at the ANU College and ANU.
There is no application as students are automatically considered based on them meeting the eligibility criteria.
ANU Sport and Recreation Association Scholarship
The $5,000 per annum award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
- Is a domestic or international student; and
- Is enrolled or enrolling in an undergraduate degree or postgraduate coursework or Higher Degree Research program at ANU; and
- can demonstrate a potential for, or history of, excellence in athletic performance.
Dennis Griffin Piano Undergraduate Scholarship
Applicants must have received an offer by the School of Music in the piano and composition area of the School. You will receive $5,000 per annum.
Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Statistics Foundation Scholarship
The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
- is an international student.
- is enrolled in, or has been granted entry into either the Bachelor of Finance, or Bachelor of Statistics, following successful completion of a Foundation Program.
The award will cover 10% of the recipient’s ANU International Student Fees (ISF), for the standard full time duration of the Bachelor degree in which the student is enrolled (up to 6 semesters).
ACTION Trust Honours Scholarship
The Up to $5000 per annum scholarship shall be available for award each year to students who:
- have been successful in gaining entry into the Honours year of a program of study through the Fenner School of Environment and Society or the Earth and Marine Science program in the Research School of Earth Sciences:
- have a strong academic record;
- are intending to undertake research in an area relating to environment and sustainability;
- have willing and suitable supervision.
$7,000 per annum, Anjeli Nathan Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility
- an outstanding applicant who has been accepted to study behavioural ecology or conservation biology for an Honours Program within The Australian National University; or
- an outstanding applicant who is within 12 months, as at the closing date, of having completed the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours at The Australian National University.
- Projects involving long-term captivity, killing or surgery on animals will not be considered.
- Preference will be given to applicants based or co-supervised in the Division of Ecology, Evolution and Genetics during their Honours year.
ANU College of Business & Economics Honours Scholarship
The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
- is a domestic or international student;
- has applied for admission and will enrol on a full-time basis in an Honours program offered by the College
The value of this scholarship is $15,000 per annum. This amount will be paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semester.
ANU College of Law International Excellence Scholarship
The award is available each semester to a prospective ANU student who:
- is an international student;
- is a citizen of one of the following countries: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam;
- has made an application for admission to the Master of Laws (LLM) program at the ANU College of Law;

A E Ringwood Supplementary Scholarship
Eligibility: Bachelor degree with first-class honours, or a research Master degree from a recognised university; International Students will be considered for this scholarship. Discipline specific. Awardees of this scholarship will have been successful in obtaining a full Tuition Fee Scholarships and an ANU (stipend) Scholarship; which include travel to Canberra; reimbursement of some removal expenses; thesis reimbursement allowance.
A&A Masters Higher Degree Research Award
The applicant must be enrolled full-time in the final year of a Higher Degree by Research program of study at the ANU School of Art, ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. Benefits: A one off payment award valued at $1,000.00
ANU Fenner School of Environment & Society PhD Scholarship
The $27,596 per annum award will be available each year to a student who is:
- either a domestic or an international student; and
- enrolling full-time in a program of study for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, in the Fenner School of Environment & Society, at the Australian National University.
In addition to the fortnightly stipend, the scholarship also provides the following benefits:

ANU Futures of Demography PhD Scholarship
The $28,092 per annum Award will be available each year to a prospective or continuing student/s who:
- is a domestic and/or international student; and
- holds a Bachelor degree with first-class honours, or a Master degree with a research component or equivalent from a recognised university; and
- is enrolled or enrolling full-time in a PhD program in the Research School of Social Sciences, supervised in the School of Demography.
HDR Fee Remission Merit Scholarship: International recipients will also be awarded an HDR Fee Remission Merit Scholarship, to cover the International Student Fees for the standard duration of the Higher Degree Research (HDR) program, subject to the recipient being ranked as competitive in a merit-based selection process.
ANU Master of Philosophy Scholarship
The $28,092 per annum scholarships are available to potential and current students who:
- are domestic or international students; and
- have applied for admission to a Master of Philosophy Research program at the ANU; and
- have a Bachelor degree with first-class Honours (some Colleges may consider applicants with upper second-class Honours), or a Master degree with a research component from a recognised University.
